Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the first-ever torch relay today for the 44th Chess Olympiad, to be held in July-August in New Delhi. After PM Modi’s inauguration, the relay, along the lines of one for the Olympic Games, would be a regular feature of the Chess Olympiads in the future.
The Prime Minister would launch the torch relay at the Indira Gandhi stadium in the national capital, the All India Chess Federation said in a tweet. Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand hailed the decision and will most likely be present during the event.
