BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed the imminent release of an advertisement seeking a new head coach. Despite Rahul Dravid serving as Team India’s head coach since November 2021, with his contract extended after the 2023 ODI World Cup, it appears unlikely that Dravid will receive another extension.
The board is set to advertise for a new coach soon, indicating that Dravid’s tenure might not be prolonged. His current contract with the BCCI as the head coach of the Indian team expires in June, coinciding with the team’s participation in the T20 World Cup.

In November 2023, Dravid signed an extension as the head coach of the Indian team, along with his support staff. However, the new contract was only valid until the end of June 2024.
The decision regarding appointing different coaches for different formats will also be made by the CAC. Considering there are numerous all-format players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, among others, the situation is unprecedented in India.
Jay Shah has confirmed that Rahul Dravid can apply for the role
Jay Shah has confirmed that Rahul Dravid can apply for the role if he wishes to, but there will be no automatic extension as before.
“Rahul’s tenure is only until June. So, if he chooses to apply, he is welcome to do so,” the BCCI secretary told Cricbuzz. He also indicated that hiring a foreign coach is a possibility.

“We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body,” the BCCI official stated.
Shah has virtually ruled out the possibility of appointing different coaches for different formats, unlike some other international boards.
