After England’s 3-0 series defeat, captain Jos Buttler dismissed Ravi Shastri’s claim about the team’s training during the tour. Shastri, while commentating, stated that England had only one net session throughout their trip, which included five T20Is and three ODIs. Although England skipped net sessions before the last two ODIs in Cuttack and Ahmedabad. Buttler insisted that his team engaged in “plenty of training” during the extended tour, which began on January 22 with the T20Is.
Responding to Shastri’s remarks, Buttler said, “I’m not sure that’s entirely true. It has been a long tour with several travel days. While there were occasions we didn’t train, we certainly put in a lot of work. We focus on creating a strong environment, but that shouldn’t be mistaken for laziness or lack of effort. The players are eager to perform, improve, and give their best.”

Buttler Remains Optimistic Despite England’s ODI Struggles
The 3-0 drubbing was England’s fourth straight ODI series defeat since the 2023 World Cup. Which too ended in an underwhelming fashion for the then holders with three wins in nine games. Yet, Buttler doesn’t believe his team’s confidence will be dented heading to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
“We want the results to build confidence and win games – that feels a lot better having won matches as opposed to losing. We’re up against a good side in their own conditions. They’re probably the benchmark in ODI cricket at the moment,” Buttler said, seeing a silver lining in his team not playing to their potential yet.
“We’ve not played near our potential, we’ve had some moments in games. Never enough to force results or look like winning games of cricket in the last three matches. But I think the fact we’re not anywhere near our potential yet or playing individually or collectively where we know we can be gives us something to look forward to, believe we can get there and be dangerous team in the Champions Trophy,”. Buttler said.
