Ishan Kishan’s impressive knock of 69 runs from just 34 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday not only set the stage for Mumbai Indians in their pursuit of 197 runs but also paved the way for Hardik Pandya’s team to secure victory. Ishan’s innings was adorned with seven fours and five sixes.

During the lead-up to the start of the IPL, Kishan shared insights into his recent weeks when he was omitted from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the 2023-24 season.

Kishan Speaks on BCCI Contract
Before the IPL, Kishan had been selected for the South Africa series in December 2024, but he opted out citing mental fatigue. Furthermore, he chose not to make himself available for international selection in the following months.

Despite requests from Rahul Dravid and Jay Shah, Kishan chose to prepare for the IPL with Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya rather than participate in the Ranji Trophy.
Addressing the media after Mumbai Indians’ 7-wicket victory against RCB on Thursday, Kishan commented on the situation, stating, “I was practicing. When I took time off from the game, there was a lot of speculation. Numerous things circulated on social media. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that many factors are beyond the players’ control.”
