Ishan Kishan Jumps in T20I Rankings, Varun Chakravarthy Loses Top Spot

India’s explosive batter Ishan Kishan delivered an outstanding performance during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which propelled him to a career-best second position in the latest T20I batters’ rankings released on Wednesday. Kishan’s aggressive and fearless batting throughout the tournament played a key role in India’s campaign and significantly boosted his rating points. With consistent performances and crucial contributions, he emerged as one of the standout players of the competition and firmly established himself among the top batters in the shortest format of the game.

Meanwhile, India’s rising star Abhishek Sharma retained the number one position in the T20I batting rankings after delivering another impressive knock in the tournament’s final. His rapid half-century against New Zealand national cricket team helped him maintain his lead at the top of the rankings. Sharma currently holds 875 rating points, keeping a narrow advantage over Kishan, who now sits just four points behind with 871. The close margin between the two Indian batters has intensified the competition for the top spot in the rankings.

Kishan’s rise came after he moved up two positions in the rankings following an exceptional run during the tournament. He accumulated an impressive 317 runs, demonstrating both power hitting and consistency under pressure. His performances earned him a new career-high rating and positioned him as the closest challenger to Sharma.

Rashid Tops T20I Bowlers’ Rankings

The latest update also brought a significant change in the T20I bowlers’ rankings. Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan overtook India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy to claim the top position. Rashid now leads the bowling rankings with 753 rating points, while Chakravarthy slipped to second place with 740 points. The shift occurred after the completion of the global tournament, where several batters managed to decode Chakravarthy’s variations, slightly affecting his standing in the rankings.

Interestingly, Rashid managed to secure the number one ranking despite not playing any matches in the final stages of the tournament week. At the same time, a few other bowlers improved their positions following strong performances. England’s veteran spinner Adil Rashid climbed one place to fourth, while India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah also moved up one spot to sixth. Another Indian all-rounder, Axar Patel, achieved a notable jump of six positions to reach 17th in the bowlers’ rankings after contributing with the ball during the competition.

The competition among T20I all-rounders also remained extremely close. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza and India’s dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya both reached new career-high rating points while holding the top two spots in the category. Their consistent contributions with both bat and ball kept them ahead of the rest of the field. However, India’s Shivam Dube slipped in the rankings, dropping from ninth to 11th place in the latest list, reflecting the intense competition among all-rounders in the international T20 format.
