IPL 2026: Ryan Rickelton updates on Hardik Pandya’s illness

Mumbai Indians secured a crucial win in IPL 2026, but concerns over captain Hardik Pandya continue to persist after he missed the clash against Lucknow Super Giants due to a back spasm. The team strengthened its position on the field, yet uncertainty around Pandya’s condition remains. Opener Ryan Rickelton shared the latest update, admitting that the team still lacks clarity about the seriousness of the issue while hoping for his quick recovery.

Speaking after the match at Wankhede Stadium, Rickelton revealed that he had only learned about Pandya’s condition shortly before the game. He stated that he does not know when Pandya will return and emphasized that he cannot yet determine the severity of the back spasm. While avoiding labeling it as a serious injury, Rickelton expressed confidence that Pandya will rejoin the squad soon as they prepare to travel to Raipur.

In Pandya’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav stepped up to lead the side as stand-in captain. At the toss, he confirmed Pandya’s unavailability, stating that the skipper was unwell and that he would take over leadership duties for the match. The franchise also officially announced that Pandya missed the game due to a back spasm, reinforcing the reason behind his absence.

Pandya’s Fitness Worry Deepens Season Struggles

Pandya’s fitness concern adds to what has already been a challenging season for him, both as a captain and an all-rounder. His inconsistent performances and now his health issue have raised questions about his availability for upcoming matches. The team management will closely monitor his condition as the tournament progresses.

Despite the off-field concerns, Mumbai Indians delivered a dominant performance. Rickelton played a sensational knock of 83 runs off just 32 balls, leading the chase with confidence. Rohit Sharma also contributed significantly with a powerful 84, helping the team chase down a massive target of 229 in just 18.4 overs and keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Earlier in the match, Lucknow Super Giants posted an imposing total of 228/5, thanks to aggressive innings from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh. However, Mumbai Indians’ batting lineup overpowered the target with ease. While the victory brought relief to the team, attention now shifts back to Pandya’s recovery, with cautious optimism surrounding his return but no confirmed timeline yet.
