The Indian cricket team is not expected to visit Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The BCCI plans to ask the ICC to host the matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka instead. Official communication of this request from the Indian board to the International Cricket Council is imminent.
The Champions Trophy is anticipated to adopt a hybrid format in February-March next year, due to India’s probable non-participation in ODI matches in Pakistan which holds the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy, marking its return to the cricket calendar for the first time since 2017. However, some matches in the tournament may take place in the UAE or Sri Lanka.
Indian cricket team’s Participation in Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy in Doubt
Last month, the Pakistan Cricket Board submitted a draft schedule to the International Cricket Council, scheduling India’s matches in Lahore, including a significant game against their arch-rivals on March 1. Nonetheless, there has been no official confirmation from the BCCI regarding travel arrangements at present.
The likelihood of the Indian team travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy is slim, pending a final decision by the Indian government. In such a scenario, a hybrid model will be considered. India might play their matches in the UAE or Sri Lanka, similar to the Asia Cup. The ICC’s position on this matter will also be pivotal.
