India One Step from Semi-Finals, Draw vs Wales Will Do

India will aim to secure at least a draw against Wales in their final Pool B match to confirm a place in the semi-finals of the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday. The Indian women’s team has performed strongly so far in the tournament and stands in a promising position. A draw or a win in the upcoming game will guarantee their entry into the last four. The team will look to continue its positive momentum in the crucial encounter.

Currently, India women’s national field hockey team sit at the top of Pool B with four points from two matches. Scotland women’s national field hockey team also have four points but remain in second place due to an inferior goal difference. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals. This makes India’s final group match extremely important in determining the standings.

If India manage a draw or a victory against Wales women’s national field hockey team, they will secure their semi-final spot without depending on other results. However, a defeat could complicate their chances. In that situation, India would remain on four points and their qualification would depend on the outcome of the match between Scotland and Uruguay women’s national field hockey team.

India have enjoyed an impressive start to the tournament. They began their campaign with a commanding 4–0 win over Uruguay on March 8. In their second match, the Indian team fought hard to earn a 2–2 draw against Scotland. These results have helped them stay at the top of the group standings heading into the final pool match.

Young forward Sunelita Toppo has been in outstanding form, scoring in both matches for India. Alongside her, attackers Lalremsiami, Navneet Kaur and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal have played key roles in the attacking unit. They have consistently created chances and contributed important goals for the team.

India’s defence has also delivered a solid performance in the competition. Goalkeeper Bichu Devi has made several crucial saves to keep the team in strong positions during matches. The home support in Hyderabad has also boosted the team’s confidence, providing extra motivation for the players on the field.

Captain Salima Tete expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress in the tournament so far. She said the squad is filled with positivity and that young players are making the most of their opportunities. India also hold a strong 5–1 head-to-head record against Wales. However, the team will remain cautious as Wales will aim to secure their first win of the campaign.
