India embarks on their journey to the 2027 ODI World Cup in Australia with Shubman Gill as the new captain. Taking over from Rohit Sharma, Gill will lead the team in the important three-match ODI series starting later this month, marking the beginning of a fresh chapter for Indian cricket.
At just 26, Shubman Gill will become the 28th ODI captain of the Men in Blue, joining a legacy spanning over 1,000 matches and 51 years. His appointment ends Rohit Sharma’s four-year captaincy tenure, during which Rohit led India to the 2023 ODI World Cup and secured the Champions Trophy title in 2025 after a 12-year wait.
