India Defeat New Zealand by 96 Runs to Win T20 World Cup 2026

India delivered a dominant performance to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad. The victory helped India secure their third T20 World Cup title and successfully defend the championship. Captain Suryakumar Yadav led the team to a historic win at the Narendra Modi Stadium. With this triumph, India also became the first team to win a T20 World Cup on home soil. The match showcased India’s strength in both batting and bowling as the team completely outplayed New Zealand in the final.

Dominant all-round performance helps India retain the title and become first team to win T20 World Cup on home soil

Earlier, India posted a massive total of 255 for 5 in 20 overs, the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. Sanju Samson played a crucial knock and scored 89 runs to anchor the innings. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma contributed with important half-centuries. Toward the end, Shivam Dube added quick runs with a powerful cameo. Although Jimmy Neesham picked three wickets for New Zealand, the Indian batting lineup maintained aggressive momentum throughout the innings and set a daunting target.

In response, New Zealand struggled to build partnerships while chasing the huge target. India’s bowling attack quickly gained control of the match. Jasprit Bumrah delivered an outstanding spell and took four wickets. Axar Patel also impressed with the ball and claimed three wickets. As a result, New Zealand collapsed and were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. The convincing victory confirmed India’s dominance and highlighted the team’s balanced performance in the final.

After the win, captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the players and credited their strong performances throughout the tournament. He described Bumrah as a once-in-a-generation bowler and thanked the team management for their support. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner admitted that his team faced a stronger side and acknowledged India’s superior performance in the final.
