The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reinforced its commitment to discipline, unity, and a positive team environment with newly introduced 10-point guidelines. It eliminated any doubts by sending an official document to all players and support staff, mandating strict adherence to these rules during the upcoming Champions Trophy. This move highlights BCCI’s determination to enforce regulations within the team, including its approach toward India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and his support staff.
BCCI’s Strict Stance on Personal Staff Accommodations
A key sign of the board’s seriousness is its strict approach to accommodating personal staff members. To uphold the newly established guidelines, the BCCI has firmly restricted non-official personnel from staying close to the team. This decision demonstrates the board’s commitment to maintaining a focused and professional atmosphere throughout the tournament.

One notable example of this enforcement is India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir. BCCI officials had previously criticized his personal assistant for closely accompanying him during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. As a result, the board has now instructed the assistant to stay at a separate hotel. This move underscores the BCCI’s commitment to preventing any undue influence or distractions, ensuring the team remains focused on its performance.

Restrictions on Coaching Staff’s Personal Aides
“The personal secretary of a member of the coaching staff, who was regularly seen staying at the team hotel, now stays at a different facility even though he has been seen at every venue during the England home series,” said a PTI report. The report did not mention Gambhir’s name, but none of the Indian coaching staff members have personal assistants travelling with the team other than the head coach. Besides, the presence of Gambhir’s PA in every important team gathering miffed the BCCI officials in Australia.
“Why was his PA sitting in the car specified for national selectors? They can’t even discuss things in private with an unknown third person in the car. Why was he allotted space in the BCCI’s hospitality box in Adelaide?” an irritated BCCI official had told PTI.
The official further questioned the individual’s presence in the breakfast area designated only for the players and the support staff.
