Complaint against Hardik Pandya over alleged insult to Indian flag

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has run into legal trouble after a Pune-based advocate filed a complaint against him. The advocate accused Pandya of disrespecting the Indian national flag during the T20 World Cup victory celebrations. He submitted the complaint at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station and asked police to take action. According to the complainant, the incident occurred during the post-match celebrations. The Indian team celebrated its historic victory in front of thousands of fans present at the stadium.

A police officer confirmed on Wednesday that advocate Wajid Khan submitted the complaint application. However, the officer did not reveal what action the police may take next. The complaint relates to the celebrations that followed India’s T20 World Cup victory. The win marked India’s third title in the tournament. Fans across the country celebrated the achievement. The victory also created huge excitement among players and supporters.

Viral celebration videos spark controversy

The controversy started after several celebration videos spread quickly on social media. In one viral clip, Pandya celebrates with the Indian Tricolour draped over his shoulders. He dances and runs across the field while interacting with teammates. The Indian players celebrated their victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium soon after the final ended. Many fans shared the videos widely online.

However, the complainant pointed to another clip from the same celebration. In that video, Pandya appears to lie on the stage beside his girlfriend while the national flag remains draped over him. The advocate argued that this act may show disrespect to the Indian flag. Therefore, he approached the police and asked them to review the viral clips. He also urged authorities to check whether the act violates any law related to the dignity of the national flag.

Complaint cites national flag law in flag row

Advocate Wajid Khan said that every citizen must respect the national flag. He referred to provisions of the National Flag Act while explaining the complaint. According to him, people must maintain the dignity of the Tricolour at all times. This rule also applies during celebrations and public events. He added that public figures should set an example when it comes to respecting national symbols.

At the same time, the issue has triggered mixed reactions on social media. Many cricket fans dismissed the controversy. They said the moment reflected emotional celebrations after a historic victory. Others, however, argued that people must handle the national flag with greater care. India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final. The win gave India its third T20 World Cup title and made it the first team to achieve that milestone.
