Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is attracting massive attention across Indian cricket, with growing calls for the BCCI to hand him an India debut soon. The 15-year-old has already impressed several former cricketers with his fearless batting style. Many experts believe his talent is too special to ignore for long. Although he has mainly played T20 cricket, he has also shown promise in limited red-ball opportunities. His performances over the last year have further increased excitement around his future and sparked discussions within Indian cricket circles about a possible BCCI gamble on the youngster.
Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi’s mentor Zubin Bharucha has openly supported the youngster for an early India call-up. Bharucha played a major role in bringing him into the Rajasthan Royals setup. He believes the BCCI should show the same faith it once showed in Sachin Tendulkar in 1989. According to Bharucha, exposing Sooryavanshi to international cricket at a young age could help shape him into a stronger player. He also feels the teenager already has the temperament needed for big matches.
Bharucha backs bold BCCI move
Bharucha stated that Sooryavanshi’s performances already place him ahead of several players waiting for opportunities. He highlighted the youngster’s strike rate, confidence, and ability to handle pressure situations. Therefore, Bharucha believes selectors should not hesitate to make a bold decision. In his view, Sooryavanshi has already shown enough maturity despite being only 15 years old.
At the same time, Bharucha explained that Sooryavanshi should not be limited to the role of an opener. While the teenager has mostly opened throughout his career, his mentor believes he can offer much more in the middle order. In fact, Bharucha feels batting at No. 5 or No. 6 may suit him better during the early stages of his Test journey. Such a role would allow him to attack older balls and play freely.

Technical growth still needed
However, Bharucha also admitted that Sooryavanshi still needs technical improvement before becoming a complete Test batter. He pointed out that the youngster often stays on the back foot while facing deliveries. Therefore, learning to handle swinging balls more effectively will become extremely important. This challenge could become even tougher in overseas conditions where fast bowlers exploit movement regularly.
Nevertheless, Bharucha remains highly confident about Sooryavanshi’s future in red-ball cricket. He believes the teenager has the natural talent and mindset needed to succeed at the highest level. According to him, proper guidance and experience can help Sooryavanshi improve further. If he adapts well to overseas conditions, he could eventually become dangerous both at the top and in the middle order.
