In a watershed moment for Indian cricket, the BCCI celebrated as the national women’s team created history by lifting their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup trophy after a thrilling 52-run win over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday night. The country erupted in celebration as BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced a massive ₹51 crore reward for the players and support staff, calling the triumph a monumental milestone that will elevate women’s cricket to an entirely new level. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal also praised the team’s achievement, comparing it to India’s iconic 1983 men’s World Cup victory and emphasising its long-term impact on the sport.

Batting first, India posted an imposing 298/7, led by Shafali Verma’s fluent 87 and Deepti Sharma’s composed 58, while Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh contributed crucial runs. Mandhana and Verma set the tone with a 100-run opening partnership that placed India comfortably ahead, although South Africa fought back late to keep the total under 300. India’s disciplined batting effort ensured they carried momentum into the second innings, setting the stage for a gripping contest.

Indian Bowlers Crush South Africa’s Chase With Precision

South Africa started confidently through Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt, who stitched together a brisk fifty-run stand, but Amanjot Kaur’s direct hit shifted the tide. Young pacer Sree Charani struck early, trapping Anneke Bosch LBW, before Shafali Verma delivered a decisive spell by removing Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp in quick succession. Deepti Sharma then produced a dream performance, dismantling the middle order with her five-wicket haul, even as Wolvaardt’s valiant century kept hopes alive.
