Ashwin Slams Miller Over IPL Row

Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin strongly criticized David Miller’s decision to refuse a single during Delhi Capitals’ close defeat against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026. The former India spinner described the move as “bonkers” and said he could not understand the thinking behind it. Miller’s call came during the final over when Delhi needed two runs from the last two balls.

The dramatic moment happened when Miller denied Kuldeep Yadav a score-levelling single on the penultimate delivery. As a result, Delhi Capitals failed to level the scores and eventually lost the match by one run. Many former cricketers and fans showed sympathy for Miller, but Ashwin openly disagreed with the decision.

Ashwin Slams Miller’s Match-Deciding Choice

Ashwin said he would have forced Miller to take the single if he had been at the non-striker’s end. According to him, refusing the run made no sense because Delhi only needed two runs from two deliveries. He explained that taking one run would have levelled the score and increased the chances of forcing a Super Over.

Moreover, Ashwin pointed out that Miller’s strategy could have been justified if Delhi needed four or six runs. However, with only two runs required, he believed the safer option was to rotate the strike and trust Kuldeep Yadav to contribute. He added that even if Kuldeep had failed to score, Delhi would still have had a chance to reach a Super Over.

Ashwin also admitted that mistakes can happen in pressure situations. Still, he said he could not understand what Miller was thinking at that moment. He felt the decision hurt Delhi Capitals badly because the team missed an important chance to secure at least one point from the game.

Delhi Capitals Suffer Big Blow After Defeat

Ashwin believes the defeat could damage Delhi Capitals’ confidence for the rest of the season. He said losing such a close game in this manner can mentally affect a team, especially when the squad already has enough talent to compete strongly in the tournament.

Ashwin said the win could give Gujarat fresh momentum and help them believe they can recover strongly in the competition.
