After Chennai Super Kings won their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) championship on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets (DLS), MS Dhoni gave a lengthy update on his likely retirement. The CSK captain, who tied Rohit Sharma for the most IPL championships, said it will be “easy” to announce his retirement, but he wants to practise for the next nine months and try to play in the following season as a “gift” for his fans.
The simple thing for me to say, in my opinion, would be “Thank you very much,” but the difficult thing for me would be to work hard for nine months, return, and participate in at least one more IPL season. But the body plays a big role. Making a decision would take 6-7 months. It will more closely resemble a gift from my end. Although it’s difficult for me, I must act in accordance with how they have demonstrated their devotion and affection, he stated.
I needed to rest in the dugout because my eyes were watering. I understood that I had to relish this. They adore the fact that I am so grounded and don’t try to present myself as somebody I’m not, therefore I believe they appreciate me for who I am. Just maintain simplicity. Every trophy is significant, but the IPL is unique in that every crucial game requires preparation, the speaker continued.
In what may be MS Dhoni’s final appearance in the T20 league, CSK achieved the revised goal of 171 in 15 overs after rain halted play at the start of the second innings in a final that was postponed to the reserve day due to severe downpour.
