IPL 2025 Mega Auction Concludes with Record-Breaking Deals

The Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, showcased an exhilarating two-day event where numerous cricketers became millionaires. A total of 182 players were sold for an astounding INR 639.15 crore, with 62 being overseas players, emphasizing Indian dominance in the league. Franchises utilized eight Right-to-Match (RTM) cards, adding excitement to the bidding wars. Notable players like Rachin Ravindra (CSK), Mukesh Kumar (Delhi Capitals), and Arshdeep Singh (Punjab Kings) returned to their original teams through RTM cards, making the auction a captivating spectacle.

Rishabh Pant Shatters Records with ₹27 Crore Bid Mega Auction

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant emerged as the most expensive player of the auction, commanding a record-breaking ₹27 crore. The bidding war for Pant began with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) later entering the fray. The contest intensified as Delhi Capitals (DC) used their RTM card to rejoin the bidding, but LSG ultimately secured Pant by exercising their override option. This historic deal highlighted Pant’s immense value as a player.

Shreyas and Venkatesh Iyer Attract Fierce Competition

Shreyas Iyer became the second-most expensive player, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) winning a fierce bidding war to acquire him for ₹26.75 crore. Initially contested by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals, PBKS re-entered the race, leveraging Iyer’s previous collaboration with coach Ricky Ponting to secure the deal. Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer returned to KKR for ₹23.27 crore after a tense bidding war with Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Analysts speculate KKR’s high investment may lead to Iyer assuming a leadership role.

Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal Command Big Bucks

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh returned to Punjab Kings for ₹18 crore after an intense battle involving multiple franchises, including Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Similarly, Yuzvendra Chahal, IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker, secured an ₹18 crore deal with Punjab Kings. Despite fierce competition from teams like Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Chahal’s former team, Rajasthan Royals, surprisingly abstained from bidding, leaving Punjab Kings to clinch the star spinner.
