US Drives Iran Ceasefire Push Through Pakistan

The United States actively pushed Pakistan to broker a temporary ceasefire with Iran, according to a report. Instead of acting independently, Islamabad reportedly worked as a channel for Washington to communicate and negotiate with Tehran.

Officials revealed that the US government urged Pakistan for weeks to convince Iran to accept a pause in the conflict. Washington believed Iran would respond more positively if a Muslim-majority neighboring country presented the proposal.

US pressures Pakistan to mediate Iran ceasefire talks

Pakistan’s military leadership, led by Army Chief Asim Munir, directly engaged with US officials, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and envoy Steve Witkoff. They also held discussions with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to finalize a two-week ceasefire plan.

Meanwhile, the US showed urgency in securing the truce due to rising oil prices and concerns over Iran’s resilience during the conflict. President Trump had earlier issued strong threats but simultaneously pushed for a ceasefire behind the scenes.

Pakistan publicly presented the agreement as its own diplomatic initiative. However, reports suggest that the White House reviewed and approved the proposal before Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced it.

During negotiations, Pakistan facilitated communication between US and Iranian officials, shared proposals, and suggested multiple ceasefire durations. Iran gradually showed willingness to consider limits on its uranium stockpile, although internal divisions—especially within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—delayed final approval.

Tensions escalated briefly when Iran launched a drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s Jubail facility, which Pakistan criticized strongly, warning that such actions could disrupt peace efforts.

Eventually, Iran agreed to send representatives to Islamabad for further negotiations, signaling progress toward a temporary ceasefire.
