On Tuesday, Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan stated that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) contradicts the principles outlined in the Quran, the holy book of Muslims. This remark comes as Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the UCC bill in the assembly. Additionally, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has expressed criticism against the proposed legislation.
We Won’t Abide By It If It Is Against The Hidayat
He informed PTI that they will not adhere to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill if it goes against the ‘hidayat’ (instructions) provided to Muslims in the Quran. However, he mentioned that there would be no objection if the bill aligns with the ‘hidayat’.

Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, an executive member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, mentioned that certain communities would receive exemptions from the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He emphasized that uniformity would not be achieved in all the laws with the introduction of the UCC, especially when some communities are excluded from its provisions. He stated that the legal committee would review the draft and make decisions accordingly.
UCC Bill Was Promised By The BJP In The 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party pledged to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill during the 2022 Uttarakhand assembly elections.

Once the bill transforms into law, it will supersede the personal religious laws that currently regulate matters such as marriage, divorce, and inheritance. The anticipated smooth passage of the bill is attributed to the BJP’s decisive majority in the state assembly.
Congress Said We Are Not Against Uniform Civil Code
The Congress asserted today that it does not oppose the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), but rather, it objects to the manner in which it is being presented. Yashpal Arya, the Leader of the Opposition, stated that while they are not against the UCC, the BJP is disregarding the rules of conduct in the House and attempting to stifle the voices of MLAs based on their numerical strength. Arya emphasized the right of MLAs to express their views in the House, whether through Rule 58 or other rules, during the Question Hour. He highlighted that MLAs have the right to raise various issues concerning the state in the Assembly.
