Trump Warns of 200% Tariffs, Reasserts Claim of Mediating India-Pak Truce

Washington: US President Donald Trump claimed his tariff threats helped end the military conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this year. He said his warning to impose 100%, 150%, and 200% tariffs forced both nations to stop fighting.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he settled the conflict “within 24 hours.” He called tariffs his most powerful tool to prevent wars and added that without them, India and Pakistan would never have agreed to peace.

Trump Boasts of Ending Global Conflicts

Trump said he had ended eight global conflicts using his negotiation skills and trade pressure. He was flying to Egypt for a peace summit, where a truce between Israel and Hamas was expected.
He also referred to tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and claimed he could resolve them too. “I’m good at solving wars,” Trump said, calling his conflict-solving record “exceptional.”

India Rejects US Role in Operation Sindoor

India has denied any US involvement in the ceasefire after Operation Sindoor. Officials said the truce came through direct talks between military leaders from both sides.
New Delhi maintains that Washington had no role in the peace process. Despite this, Trump continues to say his tariff threats prevented war and restored calm. His repeated claims have drawn criticism from Indian diplomats.

Trump also spoke about his Nobel Peace Prize ambitions. He said his record of ending long wars in a single day deserves global recognition.
“I did not do this for the Nobel,” he said. “I did it to save lives.” Trump added that he had ended several decades-old wars and prevented “millions of deaths.”

Focus Shifts to Kabul-Islamabad Tensions

After the Gaza ceasefire, Trump said his next goal is to address the conflict between Kabul and Islamabad. He plans to take up the issue after returning from the Middle East.
“There’s a war now between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” he said. “It will have to wait until I return. I’m already solving another one.”
Trump’s latest remarks show he still aims to project himself as a global peacemaker ahead of the 2026 elections.
