Preneet Kaur Praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Following his resignation as chief minister in 2021, Mr. Singh established the Punjab Lok Congress, which he later amalgamated with the BJP in the subsequent year. Ms. Kaur faced suspension from the Congress in February of the prior year due to allegations of “anti-party activities” in support of the BJP.

On Thursday, in the presence of National General Secretaries Vinod Tawde and Tarun Chugh, along with Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, who was formerly associated with the Congress, Ms. Kaur officially joined the BJP. During the event, she commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his significant contributions to the nation’s progress and development.

Why she had quit the Congress

When questioned about her departure from the Congress, Ms. Kaur responded, “I prefer not to dwell on the past. My tenure with the Congress party was fulfilling, and I am hopeful for a more fruitful journey with the BJP.”

The Patiala constituency has been clinched by Ms. Kaur on four occasions, including the 2019 elections, and was previously represented by Amarinder Singh.

Ms. Kaur’s defection will pose a setback for the Congress, which secured victory in eight out of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab in 2019. However, it now confronts challenges from the AAP, which is currently in power in the state, as well as the BJP.
