Jyotiraditya Scindia will submit his nomination as the BJP candidate

Jyotiraditya Scindia, prominent members of the former royal family of Gwalior, have adeptly shifted between various political parties when contesting electoral battles in their hometown. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will continue this legacy as he submits his nomination as the BJP candidate for the Guna Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Jyotiraditya Scindia: the grandson of Vijaya Raje Scindia

After facing an unexpected defeat five years ago as the Congress candidate from Guna, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who represents the contemporary generation of the family in Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape, has re-entered the electoral arena in his hometown. However, this time around, he is standing as the nominee of his former political adversary and with a distinct election symbol next to his name on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

The 53-year-old politician is the grandson of Vijaya Raje Scindia, one of the founders of the BJP, and the son of the late Madhavrao Scindia, a former Union minister. The Guna Lok Sabha constituency, situated within the Scindias’ ancestral territory, which also encompasses Gwalior, spans eight assembly constituencies across Guna, Shivpuri, and Ashok Nagar districts.

The Congress, seeking retribution against Jyotiraditya Scindia in the upcoming elections, has not yet announced its candidate for the Guna constituency. This move comes after the party lost power in Madhya Pradesh four years ago, coinciding with Scindia’s departure.

The defeat faced by the former Gwalior royals in 2019 was a rare electoral setback. Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia was defeated by his old loyalist, KP Yadav, representing the BJP, by a significant margin of approximately 1.26 lakh votes.
