Savitri Jindal, India’s wealthiest woman, stepped down from the Congress party on Thursday, March 28. It is anticipated that Jindal will align herself with the Bharatiya Janata Party, following in the footsteps of her son Naveen Jindal, a former Congress MP who recently joined the BJP just before the Lok Sabha elections. Savitri Jindal, the Chairperson Emeritus of the OP Jindal Group, holds the title of India’s wealthiest woman with a net worth of $29.1 billion, as per Forbes India’s “Top 10 Richest Women in India in 2024” ranking.

Her son, Naveen Jindal, formerly a Congress MP representing the Kurukshetra constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2004-2014, will contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from the same seat, this time as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured victory in all ten seats in Haryana.
Amazing responses on X(Twitter)
Following Naveen’s defection, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh made a sarcastic comment, suggesting that Jindal would require a “giant-size washing machine” after leaving the Congress party.
In a post on X, Ramesh remarked, “When you need a giant-size washing machine, this had to happen. And after making ZERO contributions to the party in the last ten years, saying I am resigning from it is a big joke.”

Ramesh’s statement was ostensibly directed towards Jindal, alluding to him and his company, Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand coal block. Naveen serves as the chairperson of JSPL.
