Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his criticism of the ruling BJP’s ideological base, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing it of viewing certain religions, languages, and communities as inferior. He emphasized that the real struggle in India is about these issues, not just politics.
During his four-day visit to the US, Rahul Gandhi expanded on his point by engaging with a Sikh attendee in the front row, asking, “What is your name, brother with the turban?” He emphasized that the struggle is about whether a Sikh in India can freely wear his turban or kada, both important symbols of Sikhism, and if he can attend the Gurdwara. Gandhi stressed that this fight isn’t just for Sikhs, but for people of all religions.

Rahul Gandhi trying to spread falsehood among Sikhs abroad
Union minister and BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri responded sharply, labeling Rahul Gandhi’s remarks as “sinister.” He accused Gandhi of attempting to spread misinformation among Sikhs overseas and strongly condemned his statement about Sikhs not being able to wear turbans and kadas.
Hardeep Singh Puri referenced the 1984 anti-Sikh riots during Congress’s rule, stating, “The only time in our history when the Sikh community felt deep anxiety, insecurity, and an existential threat was when Rahul Gandhi’s family was in power.” He highlighted the violence of 1984, describing it as a pogrom in which 3,000 innocent Sikhs were killed, dragged from their homes, and burned alive with tyres around them.
On Sunday, Gandhi called for the need for independent people to helm India’s education system while accusing RSS of damaging it. He said the education system was feeding ideologies and RSS was placing most of the vice-chancellors.
Gandhi, who spoke to students and members of the diaspora in Texas on Sunday, said the RSS believes India is one idea while they believe India is a multiplicity of ideas.
