MNS Backs Shinde-Led Shiv Sena to Strengthen Hold in Kalyan Dombivli Civic Body

The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has extended its support to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), adding five seats to Sena’s strength and improving its chances of forming the civic government.

In the KDMC elections, Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 53 corporators, followed closely by the BJP with 50 seats. Shiv Sena (UBT) won 11 seats, while MNS secured five. Congress and NCP-SP won two and one seats respectively. The corporation requires 61 seats to form a majority.

Raj Thackeray’s MNS extends support to Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, boosting its tally in KDMC while the Sena-BJP alliance remains intact.

With MNS backing, Shiv Sena’s tally has risen to 58, bringing it closer to the majority mark. As part of the arrangement, Shiv Sena will lead the decision-making process, including the selection of the mayor and key committee chairpersons.

Dr Shrikant Shinde, son of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, confirmed the alliance after submitting the MNS support letter to the district collector. He clarified that despite this development, the Shiv Sena’s alliance with the BJP remains unaffected.

Shinde stated that Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan would jointly decide on the mayor candidate and other key positions. He also indicated that corporators from other parties were willing to support Shiv Sena for developmental governance, citing a similar arrangement in Ulhasnagar.
