Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Passes Away at AIIMS, Delhi

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at Delhi’s AIIMS hospital. He was 92. The hospital stated that the Congress veteran had been undergoing treatment for age-related health issues and suffered a “sudden loss of consciousness at home.” Despite efforts to revive him, he was declared dead at 9:51 pm.

Dr. Singh served as India’s Prime Minister for two terms, leading the Congress-led UPA government from 2004 to 2014. He had been in declining health for the past few months.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute, calling him one of the “most distinguished leaders.” Congress MP Rahul Gandhi expressed his grief, describing Dr. Singh as a “mentor and guide.” Leaders from across the political spectrum also offered condolences, remembering his contributions to the nation.

Telangana government announces 7-day mourning

The Telangana government has announced state mourning for seven days and a holiday for government offices and educational institutions on Friday as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who passed away in Delhi.

The national flag will be half-mast during the state mourning, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari said in a communication to district Collectors and Superintendents of Police.

The Government of India has cancelled all programs scheduled for today and has declared a national mourning of 7 days on the demise of Dr Manmohan Singh. His last rites will be conducted with full state honours.
