Metropolitan Police launched a criminal investigation into Peter Mandelson for alleged misconduct in office. Authorities acted after claims he shared sensitive government information with Jeffrey Epstein. Mandelson served as business secretary during Gordon Brown’s Labour government in 2009. Emails released by the US Justice Department prompted the police inquiry.
The emails appear to show Mandelson passing market sensitive details to Epstein. The information related to financial measures during the global banking crisis. Downing Street reviewed the documents before formally referring them to police. The government said it would fully support the ongoing investigation.

Mandelson Denies Wrongdoing as Police Probe Former Minister
Mandelson has not commented publicly but denies committing any criminal offence. He insists financial gain never motivated his communications with Epstein. Police confirmed they are investigating a former minister aged seventy two. Officers said they will assess all relevant material before commenting further.
Mandelson told parliamentary authorities he will resign from the House of Lords. He will retain his life peerage unless Parliament passes new legislation. The government is drafting laws to allow peerages to be removed swiftly. Prime Minister Keir Starmer reportedly described the alleged conduct as disgraceful.
Opposition parties questioned the vetting behind Mandelson’s ambassadorial appointment. Conservatives plan to compel disclosure through a parliamentary humble address. Liberal Democrats called for a public inquiry into Epstein’s political connections. Ministers expect no immediate release of documents about Mandelson’s appointment.
