What are One Nation One Election bills?
The government introduced these bills in the Lok Sabha during the winter session of parliament. The bills aim to hold simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies across India.
Earlier, JPC Chairperson Chaudhary stated that India could achieve its goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 if development projects progress at a faster pace. He emphasized that reducing the frequency of the model code of conduct would allow for quicker implementation of development work.
“The Lok Sabha elections were initially conducted together,” Chaudhary explained. “However, the sequence was disrupted when several governments were dissolved prematurely. Repeated elections significantly increase expenditure and impose a burden on the public.”

Election commission to announce Delhi Assembly poll dates at 2 PM today
The Election Commission of India will announce the Delhi Assembly Election 2025 dates at 2 pm today, and voting will likely take place next month.
This announcement will enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The national capital’s political scene is already heating up, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress preparing for the upcoming contest. The current Delhi Assembly’s term ends on February 23, 2025.
In 2020, voters cast their ballots for the 70-member assembly in a single phase on February 8, and officials declared the results on February 11. The previous Assembly ended its term on February 22, 2020. Arvind Kejriwal took his third oath as Delhi Chief Minister on February 16, 2020, at Ramlila Maidan.
The AAP, under Kejriwal’s leadership, is aiming for a third consecutive term after securing landslide victories in 2015 and 2020, with 67 and 63 seats, respectively.
Meanwhile, the BJP has struggled to gain more than single-digit seats in the last two elections, and the Congress has remained sidelined after its 15-year rule ended in 2013.

BJP’s ‘double-engine’ push
Prime Minister Modi launched several infrastructural projects before addressing two public meetings last week. During his address on Sunday, he stressed the need for a double-engine government in Delhi — the same party governing both the Centre and the state.
“Last year, the central government allocated ₹75,000 crores for security, health, and other development projects,” Modi said. “Delhi needs development that makes it a global model for urban growth. This is possible only when BJP governs both the Centre and Delhi.”
The Congress party, which lost power to AAP in 2013, has adopted a similar approach to woo voters. It has promised ₹2,500 per month for women if it wins the upcoming elections.
