The Congress’ resounding victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections has set the tone for a nationwide opposition coalition that took shape as the Indian nationwide Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
After defeating the BJP and Narendra Modi, who led the campaign from the front in Karnataka, the victory has given Congress an opportunity to lay a claim to head the coalition.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Opposition leader Siddaramaiah emphasized that the Karnataka elections set the narrative for national elections. The Grand Old Party has regained allies, formed regional alliances, and gained momentum for upcoming Assembly elections. Kharge expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conclave and thanked party leaders for their suggestions. He renamed the group INDIA and established an 11-member coordination committee.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banarjee attended summit with Congress opponent Rahul Gandhi, accusing Gandhi of winning TRP.
Congress’s Karnataka election victory has shifted regional party leaders towards Congress, leading to alliance talks at the national level. Mamata and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal criticized Modi for destroying sectors. Kejriwal won a 12% vote share in Gujarat, consuming Congress’s vote bank.
