Jayant Chaudhary Gets Lok Sabha Seats In Uttar Pradesh

Jayant Chaudhary gets Lok Sabha seats adding to the series of setbacks for the Opposition’s INDIA bloc, the RLD led by Jayant Chaudhary has formed an alliance with the BJP in Uttar Pradesh for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. According to the agreement on seat sharing, the RLD is set to contest two Lok Sabha seats, namely Baghpat and Bijnor, and has also secured a promise for a Rajya Sabha seat.The official declaration of the alliance is expected to be announced within the next two to three days.

The RLD, led by Jayant Chaudhary, holds sway in certain areas of western Uttar Pradesh, and the BJP aims to capitalise on this influence in a region predominantly inhabited by the influential Jat community.

Indeed, during the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP faced setbacks in Uttar Pradesh, losing 16 seats, with seven of them originating from western UP and all six from the Moradabad division.

This development arises amid ongoing challenges related to seat distribution within the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, negotiations on seat sharing between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the state have yet to yield any breakthrough.

Nevertheless, the party led by Akhilesh Yadav has proceeded to unveil its candidates for 16 seats in Uttar Pradesh, taking the Congress by surprise.

In January, Akhilesh Yadav had indicated that the RLD would be given seven seats, although the specific constituencies were not clearly identified at that time.

Earlier this week, with discussions about the RLD aligning with the NDA becoming prominent, Akhilesh expressed, “Jayant Chaudhary is a knowledgeable individual, well-versed in politics. I am optimistic that he will not allow the struggle for farmers and the progress of UP to lose its momentum.”
