PM Narendra Modi Comments on Jagdeep Dhankhar’s VP Resignation: ‘Proud to Serve India’

A day after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice President of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the news. Modi said Dhankhar received many opportunities to serve the country in various important roles, including as Vice President. The Prime Minister also wished Dhankhar good health and praised his contributions to India’s development. Dhankhar, aged 74, had submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, citing health concerns as his reason to step down. The President promptly accepted his resignation, making it effective immediately. Dhankhar’s decision came unexpectedly and marked the end of his tenure as the nation’s Vice President.

In his resignation letter, Dhankhar mentioned that health issues prevented him from continuing in the role effectively. He thanked the President and the nation for their support during his service. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Steps Down Due to Health Concerns

Jagdeep Dhankhar, who took office as India’s Vice President in August 2022, resigned before completing his term ending in 2027. He submitted his resignation on the first day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. In his letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar said he resigned to prioritize his health and follow medical advice. He officially stepped down immediately under Article 67(a) of the Constitution. Dhankhar expressed deep gratitude to the President for her support and praised their smooth working relationship. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers for their cooperation. Dhankhar acknowledged learning a lot during his tenure. Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi suggested that Dhankhar’s relationship with the Centre might have changed.

As Vice President, Dhankhar also chaired the Rajya Sabha. Before this role, he served as West Bengal Governor, where he often clashed with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. His resignation stirred political discussions across the country. Many speculate about the underlying reasons behind his sudden decision to step down. The Vice President’s tenure remains notable for both his administrative role and political controversies.
