On Sunday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed India ’s calm response to Donald Trump’s recent victory in the US presidential election, contrasting it with the anxiety seen in other countries. Speaking at the Aditya Birla 25th Silver Jubilee Scholarship Programme in Mumbai, Jaishankar emphasized that India remains unaffected due to its longstanding relations with various US administrations.

India ’s Growing Global Aspirations
S Jaishankar discussed India’s increased interest in global engagement, from tourism and education to career opportunities abroad. He emphasized, “This deeper linkage between the external world and our national endeavors offers us crucial opportunities to accelerate the path towards a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).” He further stated that India’s foreign policy is now equally focused on advancing national development alongside ensuring national security.

PM Modi’s Strong Ties with US Leaders
Jaishankar highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful diplomatic rapport with multiple US Presidents, including Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. He noted, “There is something natural in terms of how he forges those relationships… I know many countries are nervous about the US today, but let’s be honest. We are not one of them.” This calm approach underscores India’s confidence in its established partnership with the US.
PM Modi’s Congratulatory Message to Trump
Jaishankar shared that Modi was among the first world leaders to congratulate Trump on his election win. Modi expressed his eagerness to strengthen India-US ties, aiming to work together on global peace, stability, and prosperity amid challenges like the Middle East conflicts and the Russia-Ukraine war. Modi’s congratulatory message, posted on X, conveyed his hope for continued collaboration.
