House Democratic leaders demanded that President Donald Trump fire Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after federal agents fatally shot Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. They warned that if Trump refuses to remove her — or if Noem does not resign — Democrats will launch impeachment proceedings against her.
Democratic leaders say they will move forward with impeachment proceedings if President Trump does not fire or Kristi Noem does not resign over the Minneapolis shooting.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and senior Democrats accused the Department of Homeland Security of using excessive force and violating constitutional rights. They said the department failed to protect American lives and blocked a transparent investigation into the killings of Alex Pretti and Renée Good.

Representative Jamie Raskin called on House committees to open a full impeachment inquiry. He alleged that Secretary Noem misled the public, falsely labeled the victims as domestic terrorists, and attempted to cover up the shootings. Raskin pledged to investigate possible constitutional violations, abuse of power, and corruption within DHS leadership.
More than 160 House Democrats now support the impeachment effort, with backing growing after Pretti’s death. Although no Republicans have formally joined the impeachment push, Republican Senators Thom Tillis and Lisa Murkowski said they lost confidence in Noem’s leadership and urged a change at the department. As pressure intensifies, House and Senate committees scheduled public hearings in February, where senior DHS officials will testify about the incident and the department’s conduct.
