On Wednesday, Chief Minister Champai Soren attended a ceremony in Ranchi, Jharkhand, to present appointment letters to over 1,500 newly appointed teachers. The ceremony is cancel at the last minute.
Nonetheless, sources claim that the event was just postpone to commemorate Hemant Soren’s return as CM and to hand out appointment letters. While sources in the ruling JMM had previously stated that Champai would continue as CM following Hemant’s release from jail in the Enforcement Directorate case brought against him, there appears to be a reconsideration.

Hemant Soren to Retake CM Post for Clear Leadership Ahead of Upcoming Elections
According to government sources, it is done to maintain the “status quo ante,” with the goal of Hemant resigning as CM before his arrest and the appointment of loyalist Champai to the position complete.

According to a government source, Hemant Soren is likely to take over because he wants to present a united leadership, and the government wants to be clear with the public about who is running the JMM (state elections are months away), so there are no doubts. Champai Soren’s task was to lead the government in transit, which he did successfully.”
JMM Rides High After Hemant’s Bail
Hemant is grant bail on June 28, five months after his arrest, with the Jharkhand High Court ruling that there are “reasons to believe that he is not guilty of the offence” of money laundering made against him over a plot of land in Ranchi. In his first presentation, Hemant inform party workers that he had receive information that the state elections could be announce early and that he was “ready”.

The granting of Hemant’s bail comes as a boost to the JMM following the recent Lok Sabha elections, in which the party secured its best performance in twenty years by winning three of the five Lok Sabha seats (of the total 14 in the state) that it contest as part of the INDIA coalition; additionally, the coalition prevent the BJP from winning any of the five tribal-reserve seats in Jharkhand, a move that perceive as a protest against Hemant’s arrest.
