Hellhole remark: Iran defends India, China after Trump’s comment

Donald Trump sparked a strong reaction from Iran after he shared a transcript from a conservative talk show hosted by Michael Savage. The transcript described India and China as “hellhole,” which drew criticism from Tehran. In response, the Iranian embassy in Hyderabad posted on X that both nations are actually “cradles of civilisation.”

Iran also pushed back sharply, suggesting that the real “hellhole” exists where leadership threatens destruction. It referred to Trump’s earlier warning that the US could wipe out an entire civilisation in Iran if Tehran failed to comply with demands over the Strait of Hormuz. He made this statement shortly before a deadline he had set amid rising tensions.

Hellhole Remark Debate

Michael Savage expanded the controversy by going beyond India and China in his remarks. He criticized US birthright citizenship, claiming that people travel to the country late in pregnancy to secure citizenship for their children. According to him, this practice allows families from countries like India and China to settle in the US and contribute to societal changes.

He also targeted the American Civil Liberties Union, accusing it of supporting undocumented immigrants. In addition, he questioned the relevance of the United States Constitution in modern times. Instead of court rulings, he argued that public voting should decide such policy matters. Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court is reviewing this broader legal issue.

Impact on Global Relations and Energy

This situation also highlights the long histories of India and China. Both countries rank among the oldest continuous civilisations, with histories spanning over 4,000 years. By contrast, the United States established itself in 1776 and remains relatively young.

Rising tensions between the US and Iran now shape global dynamics. US actions around the Strait of Hormuz influence energy markets worldwide. As a result, India faces higher risks because it depends heavily on energy imports, especially LPG supplies. China appears more secure due to larger reserves and more diversified energy sources, although both countries still feel the indirect effects of the conflict.
