Farooq Abdullah, the ex-Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, strongly objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments about Article 370 of the constitution. The Prime Minister suggested that Article 370 had only perpetuated dynastic rule in the former state. Abdullah responded by questioning the assertion, stating, “If Article 370 was as detrimental as claimed, how did Jammu and Kashmir manage to make progress?”

He remarked that, “For decades, the Congress and its allies misled the people in the name of Article 370 for political gains. However, today, there are equal rights and opportunities for all. The truth is known to the people; they were deceived. This marks the arrival of the new Jammu and Kashmir we have all been anticipating.”
Farooq Abdullah About Modi’s Remark
Farooq Abdullah, a three-time Chief Minister of the former state, responded assertively.
He challenged, “If Article 370 was as detrimental as claimed, I urge the Prime Minister to reconsider the speech delivered in the Rajya Sabha by the then Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, where he compared the progress of two states – Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir – during the period of Article 370.”

“Now, if Article 370 and nepotism are to be held responsible, then how did we achieve that progress? It is the rule of the people; I lost the election as a chief minister. So, where is the dynastic rule?” questioned Mr. Abdullah. “This notion of dynastic rule is a recurrent theme in every speech the Prime Minister delivers; he consistently targets it.”
