ED Raids Ashok Mittal’s House In FEMA Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at multiple premises linked to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP and Deputy Leader of the House Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal. The agency launched the action in connection with an alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Officials reportedly searched several locations and examined documents during the operation.

Following the raids, AAP claimed that ED officials also searched Mittal’s residence in Jalandhar. The party pointed out that Mittal was recently appointed as the deputy leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha. He had replaced Raghav Chadha in the role, prompting the party to question the timing of the raids.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly criticised the BJP over the ED action. He alleged that the BJP had started preparations for the Punjab elections and was misusing agencies against opposition leaders. Posting on X, Mann described the raids on Mittal’s residence and university as a “typical Modi style” move.

AAP Will Not Bow Down, Says Mann

Mann further said that AAP would not be intimidated by such actions. He stated that the party would continue to fight politically and would not bow before pressure tactics. He also said that the people of Punjab would give a strong response to such moves in the coming elections.

AAP Haryana leader Anurag Dhanda also targeted the BJP and accused it of using investigative agencies for political purposes. He questioned whether the BJP lacked enough public support to contest elections on its own. Dhanda further alleged that the Centre was behaving in an authoritarian manner.

Ashok Kumar Mittal, a native of Jalandhar, Punjab, is the Founder Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU). He completed his law degree from Guru Nanak Dev University and received an honorary doctorate from Atal Bihari Vajpayee University in Chhattisgarh. Mittal entered politics in 2022 after winning a Rajya Sabha seat from Punjab.
