Donald: The conflict in the Middle East has entered its fifth week, and US President Donald Trump has raised fresh concerns with comments about Iran’s oil infrastructure. Trump suggested that the United States could take control of Iran’s oil resources, including Kharg Island, which serves as Tehran’s main oil export hub. His remarks have increased fears of a wider conflict across the Gulf region.
During an interview with the Financial Times, Trump said he would prefer to “take the oil in Iran” rather than continue prolonged military operations. He compared the idea with earlier US involvement in Venezuela, where Washington strengthened its influence over the oil sector after pressure on Nicolas Maduro’s government.
Experts believe Kharg Island remains one of Iran’s most valuable assets because it handles nearly 90 percent of the country’s oil exports. As a result, any attempt to seize the island could place major pressure on Tehran’s economy. However, analysts also warned that such a move could put American troops at serious risk and extend the conflict instead of ending it quickly.

Donald Trump on Kharg Island and Iran’s Oil Network
Trump openly suggested that the United States could take control of Kharg Island if necessary. He stated that America had several options and admitted that seizing the island would require troops to remain there for some time. Kharg Island sits close to Iran’s northern Gulf coast and plays a critical role in the country’s energy exports.
Meanwhile, reports from Washington indicated that the Pentagon has already started preparing for a possible long-term operation in Iran. Recent reports claimed that thousands of American troops, including Marines and members of the 82nd Airborne Division, have already reached the region or remain on the way.
At the same time, Donald continued to argue that Iran has limited ability to defend the island. He claimed that the United States could capture it easily if required. However, security experts strongly disagreed and warned that Iran could respond by placing naval mines in the Gulf and targeting commercial shipping routes.
Rising Tensions Over Strait of Hormuz and Leadership Claims
Donald also claimed that indirect talks between Washington and Tehran were continuing through Pakistani representatives. According to him, these discussions have shown progress, although he did not reveal details about a possible agreement related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump further claimed that Iran had allowed more Pakistan-flagged oil tankers to travel through the Strait of Hormuz. He described this move as a “gift” to Washington and said the number of ships passing through the route had increased. Trump also stated that Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf approved the additional shipments.
In addition, Donald claimed that Iran was facing a major leadership change after recent attacks reportedly killed senior officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He further alleged that Mojtaba Khamenei may have died or suffered serious injuries. However, Tehran has denied those claims and insisted that the country’s leadership structure remains stable.
