The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition contesting his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case. The court stated that the ED had sufficient evidence to justify Kejriwal’s arrest and that the delay caused by the Chief Minister had consequences for others in custody. Additionally, the court emphasized that questioning the manner of recording statements of witnesses amounted to casting doubts on the judiciary. The court affirmed that the witnesses had provided statements voluntarily and declined to intervene in the trial court’s proceedings.

High Court Ruling: Kejriwal’s Arrest Upheld Amidst Found Money Trail
The High Court judge asserted that Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in a money laundering case must be considered within the confines of the law, without attributing significance to the timing of the arrest in relation to political events such as the declaration of Lok Sabha elections. The court emphasized that political considerations are irrelevant in legal proceedings, clarifying that the case pertains to Kejriwal and the ED, not the Centre. Referring to the evidence presented, including statements from witnesses and an AAP candidate, the court highlighted the presence of a money trail. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED, affirmed the legality of Kejriwal’s arrest, citing the court’s acknowledgment of the evidence.
