Delhi court releases Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav on bail in land-for-job case

RJD leader Lalu Yadav, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, and RJD MP Misa Bharti were granted bail by a Delhi court in the land-for-jobs scam case. They all appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court today.

In July, the Enforcement Directorate seized the assets of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family in relation to the land-for-railway jobs scam. These properties encompass both the Yadav family’s holdings in Delhi and Patna.

The Enforcement Directorate has confiscated assets valued at ₹6 crore from veteran Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family. This alleged scam is related to the time when Lalu Prasad served as the railway minister during the UPA-1 government.

CBI Records Statements of Lalu Yadav’s Family in Alleged Land-for-Jobs Scam During His Tenure as Railway Minister (2004-2009)

In recent months, the federal agency has also taken statements from Rabri Devi, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar, as well as Tejashwi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Additionally, they have recorded statements from Misa Bharti (an RJD MP in the Rajya Sabha) and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughters Chanda Yadav and Ragini Yadav in connection with this case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleged that between 2004 and 2009, Lalu Prasad Yadav had purportedly received financial benefits. He purportedly received these benefits by transferring real estate to his family members in exchange for appointing ‘substitutes’ to Group D Posts in various railway zones.

Railway officials appointed the candidates within an unusually short period of three days after they applied. These individuals or their family members transferred their land, and railway officials subsequently regularized their appointments.

Many Patna residents or their relatives allegedly transferred land ownership in state capital to Lalu Prasad’s family, controlled private company.

They used documents bearing the names of Rabri Devi and daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav to execute the transfers. According to the CBI, there were no advertisements or public notices for these appointments. Nevertheless, individuals from Patna were appointed as substitutes in various railway zones, including Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hajipur.
