‘I’m a Cockroach Too’: Opposition Backs CJP in BJP vs CJP Fight

What started as an internet joke has quickly become one of India’s biggest online political meme trends. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), created just four days ago by Abhijeet Dipke, has already crossed 12 million Instagram followers. This is more than the BJP’s 8.7 million followers on the platform. Calling itself the “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed,” the satirical party has become hugely popular among Gen Z users. Social media timelines are now filled with cockroach emojis, memes and sarcastic slogans.

Meanwhile, several opposition leaders have joined the trend. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared a short post saying, “BJP versus CJP.” The one-liner soon went viral online. Soon after, AAP leader Manish Sisodia posted a video saying, “I too am a cockroach.” He added that he proudly stood with the Cockroach Janata Party. Trinamool Congress leaders Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad also expressed interest in joining the movement.

Political Satire Reflecting Youth Frustration

At the same time, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee described the trend as a “Gen Z movement.” According to him, the party reflects the growing frustration of young Indians. He linked the movement to issues like unemployment, inflation and exam pressure. Rathee also joked that he would join the party if the education minister resigned.

The movement began after controversial remarks by Surya Kant. He had compared some unemployed youth to “cockroaches” and “parasites.” Although he later issued a clarification, the comments triggered anger online. Soon, sarcastic posts and memes turned into a large internet movement. While the CJP openly calls itself satire, many supporters say it highlights real problems faced by young people.

Why Gen Z Is Connects With Cockroach Party

Unlike traditional political campaigns, the Cockroach Janata Party relies almost completely on meme culture. Its posts combine dramatic graphics, sarcastic humour and relatable jokes. Many memes focus on unemployment, exam stress and rising living costs. Because of this, the party has become especially popular among younger social media users.

Supporters also jokingly describe themselves as “survivors” of inflation, entrance exams and job hunts. However, the movement also raises serious demands. Its manifesto calls for stricter action against misinformation and vote deletion. It also demands penalties for defecting legislators and greater representation for women in governance.
