On Wednesday, Karnataka Congress legislators escalated their protest against the BJP-led Centre by staging a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. All Congress MLAs, MLCs, and MPs, along with other leaders, chanted slogans urging the Centre to release funds.

Youth Congress workers accompanied the Congress legislators, and banners with messages such as ‘Our tax, our right’ and ‘We demand a fair share’ adorned the stage. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spearheaded the protest, where demonstrators called for the Centre to rectify the purported losses suffered by Karnataka amounting to Rs 1.87 lakh crore over the five years under the 15th Finance Commission.

The Chief Minister stated that the demonstration aimed to draw the central government and the nation’s attention to the issues and concerns of the state.
Accusations Directed At The Central Government
The Chief Minister highlighted that Karnataka contributes over Rs 4.3 lakh crore in taxes to the Centre, receiving only approximately Rs 50,000 crore in return. CM Siddaramaiah stated, “Out of every Rs 100 given to the Centre, we receive only Rs 12-13.”

Congress legislators accused the Centre of withholding funds amounting to Rs 5,300 crore, as recommended by the 15th Finance Commission in its interim report. The CM alleged that the Centre has been unjust to the state over the last five years, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 1.87 lakh crore.
