BJP to Name State Chiefs by April 19, National Pick Later

SC Ruling on TN Governor Stirs BJP Unease
Amid these developments, the Supreme Court’s April 8 ruling on the Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi’s actions has caused unease within BJP’s top leadership. The court held that Ravi’s decision to reserve 10 Bills for the President’s consideration—after the Tamil Nadu Assembly had already reconsidered them—was “illegal and erroneous.” The ruling emphasized that the President must act within three months on Bills referred by the Governor and, in such cases, seek judicial opinion on matters of perceived unconstitutionality.
This verdict has stirred a fresh debate on the balance of power between the judiciary and executive, especially in light of recent controversies such as the fire at High Court judge Yashwant Varma’s home and the Supreme Court’s criticism of “bulldozer justice” in some states. At the same time, Prime Minister Modi met with President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday to discuss their recent international engagements. While Modi visited Mauritius, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, President Murmu returned from trips to Portugal and Slovakia.
