Suspense Over Braj Bhushan’s Seat Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

The anticipation surrounding Braj Bhushan’s seat was significant this time, given the accusations of sexual harassment leveled against the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and six-term MP. Various celebrated wrestlers, including medalists like Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, staged prolonged protests at Jantar Mantar, demanding Bhushan’s arrest over the alleged charges during his tenure as WFI president. The Delhi Police subsequently filed a case against Bhushan under multiple sections of the IPC, including assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. Despite this, he was granted bail later on.

Bhushan, who has served as a Member of Parliament for six terms, oversees approximately 50 private educational institutions in his political constituency and its vicinity. Additionally, he held the position of president at the Wrestling Federation of India for nearly ten years.

In the 2019 elections, Brij Bhushan secured 581,358 votes, while BSP’s Chandradev Ram Yadav received over 319,000 votes, and Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Pandey garnered 37,132 votes.
