Jhalmuri Seller Who Served PM Faces Bomb and Death Threats from Pakistan, Bangladesh

Sau became widely popular after Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped at his roadside stall during an election campaign and tasted the famous Bengali snack. The incident quickly went viral on social media and turned the humble vendor into a public figure overnight. However, what started as a proud and memorable moment for Sau has now reportedly become a source of fear and anxiety for his family. Local police have taken the matter seriously and started an investigation into the threatening calls and messages received by the shop owner in recent days.

Bengal Seller Receives Threats After PM Modi Visit

According to Bikram Sau, the threatening calls started arriving continuously over the past few days from international phone numbers. He alleged that several callers issued bomb threats and warned him of serious consequences. Sau said the repeated calls and video messages have created panic inside his household and disturbed the normal life of his family members. The frightened shopkeeper immediately approached the police and filed an official complaint regarding the matter. Investigators are now examining the phone numbers and digital records connected to the alleged threats. The incident has also triggered concern among local residents, as people fear the involvement of cross-border elements. Authorities are trying to verify the authenticity of the calls while ensuring proper security measures for the family.

Bikram Sau first gained national attention on April 19 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped at his roadside stall in Jhargram after attending a public rally in West Bengal. During the brief stop, the Prime Minister enjoyed a serving of jhalmuri, one of Bengal’s most loved street snacks. Photographs and videos of the moment spread rapidly across social media platforms, drawing massive public attention to Sau’s small business. PM Modi later shared the moment on social media platform X, mentioning that he enjoyed delicious jhalmuri between four rallies in the state. The viral visuals helped Sau’s stall become a political talking point during the heated Bengal Assembly election campaign. Customers and media persons soon started visiting the stall in large numbers after the Prime Minister’s visit.

Jhalmuri Became Political Talking Point

The viral jhalmuri moment soon turned into a major political debate between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress during the election season. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the event and described it as a “pre-planned drama” aimed at attracting public attention before the polls. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi later took a political swipe at the TMC during another campaign rally. He remarked that although he ate spicy puffed rice, it was the ruling party that appeared to be feeling the heat. The exchange further increased media focus on Bikram Sau and his roadside snack stall. Even after the elections ended, the incident remained part of political discussions and social media conversations across the country, keeping Sau unexpectedly in the spotlight for several weeks.

The popularity of Bikram Sau’s jhalmuri stall continued even after the Bengal elections concluded. During his recent five-nation foreign tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again mentioned jhalmuri while addressing a gathering in the Netherlands. Referring humorously to the famous snack, he asked whether jhalmuri had reached there as well. The remark once again pushed Sau’s stall into public discussion and renewed online attention around the vendor. However, amid the renewed spotlight, the alleged threats have now cast a dark shadow over the family’s life. What once seemed like a life-changing opportunity for the small businessman has reportedly transformed into a troubling experience filled with fear and uncertainty. Police officials are continuing their investigation while the family waits for safety and relief from the disturbing situation.
