Several notable figures from the AAP and Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) are scheduled to become part of the Congress in New Delhi on Monday.
As per insiders, prominent leaders based in Jammu like Taranjit Singh Tony (member of the District Development Council), Yashpal Kundal (former Minister), Namrta Sharma, along with other individuals who have departed from the AAP, will officially become members of the Congress on Monday in New Delhi.
They claimed that many former Congress leaders who had joined Ghulam Nabi Azad DPAP would also join the Congress. Naresh Gupta (ex-MLC), Haji Rashid (ex-MLA), and Sham Lal Bhagat (ex-MLC) are among those who have joined Congress. According to sources, these leaders will join Congress today at the party headquarters in New Delhi. It will be done in the presence of AICC president Mallikaarjun Kharge.
While confirming the mergers, senior J&K Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Monga called it a “positive development.” “It’s encouraging for the Congress because people who want to join the party believe it’s the only secular party. It can protect all sections of society and usher in a new era of development in the country,” he said.
Monga also credited Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. He said it is reviving the Congress Party and giving it a new lease on life. It’s worth noting that former Congress leaders like former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Balwan Singh, and others who defected to the DPAP have since returned to the Congress.
