On Monday, October 8, 2023, the Election Commission of India (ECI) will unveil the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in five states: Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
The election authorities will hold a press conference today at noon to announce the election dates, the phases in which they will be conducted, and the deadlines for submitting and withdrawing nominations, as reported by the news agency PTI.
The current terms of the legislative assemblies in these five states are due to expire between December 2023 and January 2024. The Election Commission of India generally discloses the election timetable approximately six to eight weeks before the expiration of the legislative assembly’s term.

The forthcoming assembly elections will serve as a significant examination for the prominent political parties, encompassing the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the primary opposition party Congress, and various regional political entities.
The Congress currently holds government positions in two of the five states, namely Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while the BJP governs Madhya Pradesh. KCR’s Bharat Rashtra Samiti governs Telangana, while the Mizo National Front (MNF) holds power in Mizoram.
Sources within the Election Commission had previously indicated to India Today that they anticipate voting to occur from the second week of November to the first week of December. EC sources suggest that Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana are likely to conduct elections in a single phase, mirroring the 2018 elections.
