America sees Iran as enemy but questions Trump’s military judgment

An AP-NORC poll reveals that most Americans in America consider Iran an enemy of the United States, yet many question President Donald Trump’s judgment on using military force abroad.

The survey, conducted from February 19–23 by The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, shows that nearly half of U.S. adults feel “extremely” or “very” concerned about Iran’s nuclear program posing a direct threat to America. Around 30% feel moderately concerned, while only a small group shows little or no concern.

America doubts Trump on force

However, only about three in ten Americans express strong trust in Trump’s judgment on military force, nuclear weapons use, and handling adversaries. More than half say they trust him only slightly or not at all.

America has entered another round of nuclear talks with Iran in Geneva as tensions rise. The U.S. government aims to restrict Iran’s nuclear activities and prevent it from developing nuclear weapons. Iran maintains that it does not seek nuclear arms and has rejected calls to halt uranium enrichment.

Trump, who withdrew America from the 2015 nuclear deal during his first term, has warned that he may use force if negotiations collapse. Iran has threatened retaliation if attacked. Both sides have increased military preparedness while continuing diplomatic discussions.

The poll also highlights political and generational divides within America. About 61% of Americans call Iran an enemy. Republicans show higher trust in Trump than Democrats and Independents, though younger Republicans show less confidence than older party members.

The survey included 1,133 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
