Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s triggered controversy after stating that Pinarayi Vijayan would continue as Kerala’s Chief Minister, prompting the Congress party to publicly distance itself from his remarks.

Congress Distances Itself After Aiyar’s Backs Vijayan, Sparks Political Row in Kerala
Aiyar made the remarks at an international seminar in Thiruvananthapuram titled “Vision 2031: Development and Democracy,” inaugurated by Vijayan. He praised Kerala’s Panchayati Raj progress and urged legal amendments using practical experience, Thomas Isaac’s insights, and his five-volume report. He even appealed to Vijayan to “pick up the baton that the Congress has dropped.”
Responding on social media, Vijayan described Aiyar’s speech as “charismatic words” that align with the present context.
However, Aiyar’s comments drew sharp criticism from local Congress leaders ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. KPCC spokesperson Jinto John criticized him, calling him disconnected from public sentiment and strongly condemning his remarks with sharp words.
