BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao successfully moved to lift the suspension of Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha from the Rajya Sabha on Monday, the first day of Parliament’s Winter Session.
On August 11, Mr. Raghav Chadha faced suspension from the Rajya Sabha, accused of a “breach of privilege.” The allegations centered on his purported suggestion of four MPs’ names for a panel tasked with examining the contentious Delhi services ordinance, granting centralized authority over bureaucrats in the national capital, all without obtaining their consent. Seeking the reversal of his suspension, Mr. Chadha approached the Supreme Court. After 115 days, the Supreme Court acknowledged the matter and lifted his suspension. In a video via ANI, Mr. Chadha thanked the court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar for resolving the issue.

The suspension stemmed from the controversy surrounding Mr. Chadha’s proposal, which raised questions about parliamentary procedures and the involvement of MPs in decision-making processes. The subsequent legal intervention highlighted the importance of due process and oversight in parliamentary affairs. Mr.Chadha’s reinstatement underscored the judiciary’s role in upholding individuals’ rights within the democratic framework and ensuring fair and transparent governance. The incident prompted reflection on the balance between executive powers and the protection of parliamentary-privileges in the Indian political landscape.
